OsoCozy
Unbleached Prefolds - 100% Indian cotton
prefold diapers. OsoCozy unbleached prefolds are twill
weave diapers that are incredibly soft and absorbent and
become softer with washing. Because they are unbleached
they have a nice natural cotton color to them but they
also have to be prewashed 2-3 times in hot water to
reach full absorbency! As with all cloth prefolds these
will shrink 5-10%. See below for information on
our unbeatable volume pricing. OsoCozy
prefolds are the highest quality and best selling
prefolds sold on the internet. Savvy internet
buyers prefer unbleached to bleached prefolds almost 4
to 1.

Bleached
versus Un-Bleached Prefold Cloth
Diapers.
Bleached prefold diapers are
white because the cotton yarn was bleached in the
factory prior to weaving the material. Cotton is
naturally an ivory or light brown color. The
bleaching process turns the cotton fibers white and
also removes the natural cotton oils in the fibers.
In doing so the strength of the fibers is reduced
and the resulting woven material is slightly less
durable. The bleaching process can lead to
additional pollutants being released to the
environment through airborne and waterborn
emissions. Recent improvements in bleaching
technology has reduced but not eliminated this
impact.
Because unbleached
diapers retain much of their natural cotton oils in
the fiber matrix they are softer and more durable
than bleached cloth diapers. Unbleached prefold
cloth diapers must be washed at least 2-3 times
after you receive them before they become absorbant.
We recommend washing the diapers in hot sudsy water
and drying them on high heat and repeating as many
times as necessary for the diapers to become
absorbant. You can test the absorbency by making a
pocket of the diaper and slowly pouring 1/2 cup of
liquid into the diaper. If the pools and does not
soak in fairly quickly, keep washing. Depending upon
the detergent you use and the hardness of your water
and the natural variations in cotton materials you
may have to wash these up to 5 times before they
become fully absorbant. Generally 2-3 washes
will be sufficient though. Do not under any
circumstance use fabric softner as this causes the
fabric to be coated and thus repels moisture.
Despite the added effort necessary to break in these
diapers, they are extremely popular and by most
accounts well worth it.
Choosing The Right Size For Diapering
& Other Uses.
The three layering
numbers refer to the number of fabric
layers of the three panels of the
prefold diaper with the middle panel
being the thickest. Thicker diapers are
generally preferred for home diapering
due to the added absorbency. Most diaper
services use 4x6x4 diapers to economize
on costs and drying time and because
they supply enough diapers for frequent
changes. Most home users prefer 4x8x4
diapers. If you feel your 4x8x4
diapers are too bulky try 4x6x4
diapers. Preemie cloth
diapers make great baby wipes and are
popular as diaper doublers and are also
suitable for the first 2-4 weeks of
diapering after birth. 4x6x4
prefolds are recommended as home
cleaning rags. Regular 4x6x4 cloth
diapers are recommended both for burp
cloths and for automobile detailing.
